Mountain gorilla trekking in Uganda is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Permits are limited and should be booked months ahead — Journey Junction secures permits for Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks as part of your safari package.

Pack light waterproof layers, sturdy hiking boots, long trousers, gardening gloves, and insect repellent. Treks can last two to eight hours depending on where the gorilla family is feeding. A reasonable level of fitness helps on steep, muddy trails.

On trek day you receive a briefing at park headquarters, then walk with rangers and porters (optional but recommended). You spend one hour with the gorillas once located. Photography is allowed without flash. Follow ranger instructions to protect the animals and yourself.
